Wrekin makes Top 50 Biggest Builders list
The Wrekin Housing Group has been named as one of the Top 50 Biggest Builders in the country in a new survey published by Inside Housing magazine.
Wrekin, who provide affordable homes to over 28,000 people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Staffordshire, has been included in the annual list – which ranks housing associations by the total number of homes completed during 2022/23.
Wrekin rose to 31 in the list after completing 505 homes during the year. Of these, 456 were affordable or social rent homes and 49 were available as part of low-cost home ownership schemes.
Some of the key new homes delivered in 2022/23 include 64 homes for affordable rent at Old Park in Telford, as well as the £7m Majestic Way scheme, which created 39 new affordable homes in the heart of Telford.
Wrekin expects to build 2,300 new homes between 2020 and 2026. Construction is underway at the Pauls Moss Housing and Health Hub, which features 71 self-contained extra care apartments for the over 55s, and a new, modern, two-storey health centre for the wider Whitchurch community.
Simon Thompson, Director of Development at The Wrekin Housing Group said:
“We are delighted to have been included in the Top 50 Biggest Builders again this year – a feat we’ve achieved despite the challenges faced in both the housing and construction sectors.
“Wrekin sets out to make a difference to people’s lives, one of the key ways in which we can achieve this is by building good quality, affordable housing.
“We have invested £279m to deliver new homes between 2020 and 2026. The work we do also has a positive impact on the local economy, creating much needed jobs and apprenticeship roles in the construction sector.
“The fact that we have made this list is recognition of the hard work and dedication of all of our teams and partners in delivering affordable homes across our communities.”
