Accessibility

In keeping with our policy of customers first, we have made sure that our website is accessible to all.

This accessibility statement applies to wrekin.com, shireliving.co.uk and wrekinreviive.com, which are all managed by The Wrekin Housing Group.

We try to make sure our website is accessible and easy to use for everyone, whether or not you have any disabilities. We have done this by:

  • Making sure text is short and to the point (using plain English in all of our written content).
  • We have made sure that there are phone numbers for services provided where they are needed. If the website doesn't give you the information you need, you can call us for help.
  • We have included video content, with subtitles, on some pages to help break up large amounts of text.

Maintaining an accessible website is an ongoing process and we are continually working to offer a user friendly experience. We regularly monitor our websites compliance and readability against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and make changes where needed.

ReachDeck

Our website uses the ReachDeck tool bar to help everyone navigate our site as easily as possible. The tool bar can be accessed via the icon in the bottom right hand corner. There are several icons on the toolbar. Each button performs a different function - you can hear text read aloud, translate it, convert to MP3 and add a screen mask. You can magnify text, simplify web pages, and set your own personalised settings.

Text to Speech: ReachDeck reads text on a webpage out loud. There are two options, Hover to Speak and Speak the Current Selection. Hover to Speak is turned on by default when the toolbar is launched.

MP3 Generation: ReachDeck converts any text that you select from a web page, into an audio file that you can then listen to later. You will need to save the audio file to your device or storage system.

Screen Mask: This feature allows you to apply a colour filter to your screen. A semi-opaque mask extends across the screen, leaving a letterbox reading window clear - this allows you to focus on a few lines at a time.

Text Magnification: You can magnify the text as it’s being read aloud. You can personalise the font, size and colour to suit your needs in settings.

Simplify: This feature removes items on the webpage which are not necessary, such as pictures, allowing you to focus on the text you want to read.

Settings: In the settings menu you can personalise the features to suit your needs.
