Work due to start on Malinslee bungalows
Plans are in place for nine affordable rent bungalows to be built by The Wrekin Housing Trust on land near a Telford primary school, nursery and medical centre.
Work is due to start on the site in Malinslee as soon as a contractor has been appointed, potentially as early as the end of this month (March) and will see one three-bedroom bungalow and eight two-bedroom bungalows built. Two of the two-bed bungalows will be specially adapted to support those tenants with a disability and each property will have a private back garden and parking space at the front.
The properties will be built opposite Old Park Primary School and Nursery and will be next to the Trinity Healthcare Centre, with access from Brunel Road.
Telford & Wrekin Council leader and ward member for Dawley bank and Malinslee Cllr Shaun Davies said the bungalows would help families in the borough who need specially adapted homes. “There is a real need for this special type of housing across the Borough and these homes will help to fill that gap, giving people with disabilities the chance to live independently.
“Too often these bungalows aren’t built due to the cost of land – and it is great to see the Trust bucking this trend and putting people’s needs first while ensuring that this site, which had been earmarked for housing some time ago, is at last developed for these much needed homes. It’s great to see another partner helping to create a better borough.”
Wayne Gethings, Interim Chief Executive of The Wrekin Housing Trust, said they are committed to building affordable homes across Telford & Wrekin, and Shropshire. “We are pleased to be bringing more affordable homes to Telford & Wrekin,” he said. “From the beginning we worked with the council to look at the housing need in Malinslee and we know there are families out there that need specially adapted homes for affordable rent. This project is a great example of partnership working between The Trust and the Council.”
