Undateables star moves to dream home
A star of TV’s The Undateables says he may not have found true love, but he has found his dream home thanks to The Wrekin Housing Trust.
Shrewsbury’s Jason Evans featured in the Channel 4 programme twice in a bid to find a partner but says he hasn’t found the love of his life yet. Instead the plane spotting enthusiast has decided to move on and has done so thanks to the new apartment he is renting from The Wrekin Housing Trust.
The two-bedroomed property in his home town is close to his parents, and his sister Jessica, but it also allows him to live with his twin brother, Jamie. “I really like the apartment because it’s close to the town centre and it is comfortable,” said Jason, who has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, which is a form of autism.
“I also like being able to live with my twin brother, who has a milder form of Asperger’s, but has a girlfriend.”
Jason, aged 26, appeared in Series 7 and Series 8 of The Undateables show, which follows people who have challenging conditions as they attempt to find love.
“I was in the pub one day with my friends when one of them said ‘why don’t you try to get on The Undateables programme’,” said Jason. “I hadn’t seen the programme but thought I‘d send off an application and I found out I was competing against 2,000 other people to appear on the show. It was exciting when they said they wanted me to be on the programme. It was like winning the lottery.”
In additional to appearing on The Undateables, Jason and Jamie have also been on ITV’s This Morning to talk about their dating experiences. “I have been in a couple of relationships in the past but they didn’t work out,” said Jason, who has previously worked in a kitchen in a nursing home.
“When I started the filming with Channel 4 I had to talk about my interests, which were train and plane spotting. We decided to focus on plane spotting and we filmed at Manchester and Birmingham airports, as well as in Shrewsbury.”
Jason’s twin brother Jamie works in domestic maintenance at Concord College near Shrewsbury and said this was his first time living away from his parents’ home.
He said: “Channel 4 was interested when they saw that we were twins and thought it would be good for the filming. Our family were excited about us taking part in the show and we watched it together along with our 11-year-old niece Mya. It was a great experience. We are excited to have our own place in Shrewsbury now, which is close to our parents, our sister and niece – it suits us both really well.”
