Retirement living home praised for bringing people together
A retirement living scheme in Telford has been recognised for strengthening community ties and embracing diversity, equality and inclusion with a Building Bridges award.
Telford and Wrekin's Mayor, Raj Mehta, presented the Building Bridges plaque to Haybridge Hall in Hadley.
Haybridge Hall, part of the Wrekin Housing Group, provides bungalows, apartments and communal areas for residents over the age of 65.
The team of staff and residents has been recognised for going above and beyond in the community. Caroline Peacock, Retirement Living Coordinator at the Wrekin Housing Group said:
“We feel honoured to receive this award. We try to organise events that include everyone within the scheme, such as fetes, festive events, weekly fish and chip dinners, bingo and dancing. We also invite those in the local community to come along and children in the school holiday.
“I’m supported here by a team of wonderful Haybridge volunteers - residents who give up some of their time to help create activities for everyone. The residents here love what we do. It’s good fun!”
The Building Bridges in the community award was established by the Mayor’s Office in 2019, recognising community organisations that go the extra mile to create a community feel and open up local connections.
Paula Reynolds, Head of Retirement Housing at Wrekin Housing Group said: “We’re thrilled to receive this Building Bridges award. Across all our schemes we aim to create a vibrant and inclusive environment where everyone can get involved and feel like part of the community.
“Our Retirement Living Coordinators and volunteers go out of their way to enable residents to live independently for as long as they can. We’re really pleased their dedication and hard work has been recognised by the Mayor’s Office.”
A plaque was presented to Haybridge Hall by Mayor of Telford and Wrekin, Cllr Raj Mehta at an afternoon of tea and scones with residents. They were also joined by Cllr Gemma Offland, Cllr Eileen Callear, and Cllr Amrik Jhawar.
