Permission granted for affordable properties in Telford
Building work is due to begin this month to create 23 affordable properties in Telford.
The Wrekin Housing Trust has received planning permission to develop the site off St Matthews Road in Donnington, which will consist of 18 two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and three two-bedroom bungalows. All properties will be available for affordable rent.
The Trust has appointed J Harper & Sons to build the properties, with work set to begin on site at the end of February. The development is due to be completed by summer 2020.
Wayne Gethings, Interim Chief Executive at The Wrekin Housing Group said: "There is a significant shortage of affordable housing in Telford, but The Wrekin Housing Trust is committed to a long-term plan of investing in such properties, which is why I'm delighted that permission for this site has been granted and work will begin soon.
"The construction will involve the demolition of the three existing blocks. These blocks are not fit for purpose, which is why we made the decision to knock them down and build brand new properties.
"This is an exciting time for the Trust as over the new few months we are due to begin work on a number of new sites in Telford. We're also due to complete work at several sites too, thereby ensuring we play our part in tackling the housing crisis."
