New Brookside bungalows complete

The Trust has redeveloped an area of Brookside, creating 18 brand new bungalows in place of outdated and run down flats. The bungalows are ideally located adjacent to the recently regenerated shops and community garden in Brookside.

The new homes will be part of Wrekin Retirement Living, meaning that the new residents will have access to their very own Retirement Living Coordinator and social activities organised by the Trust, working to combat isolation of older people.

All of the properties, which consist of ten bungalows with two bedrooms and eight with one bedroom, have been built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, offering new tenants a well-insulated home with lower energy bills.

One of the new homes is a fully adapted bungalow designed for a wheelchair user, which has greatly improved the quality of life for the new resident suiting their needs far better than their existing home.

New residents are now in the process of moving in to the bungalows, which are located on Beaconsfield in Brookside, where they replace the previous flats that were demolished. The new residents are very pleased with the properties which offer a high specification as well as individual parking and gardens.

Sarah Bradshaw, Project Manager for the Trust, said: "We've worked closely with S J Roberts Construction to bring quality, modern and user-friendly homes for local people to Brookside. We feel the new bungalows alongside the local shops, community centre and gardens, which were recently redeveloped by Telford & Wrekin Council, have greatly contributed to regenerating the area. We hope our residents will enjoy living here for many years to come."

Dean Lewis, Area Manager for Retirement Living, said: "We are delighted to have 18 new build bungalows added to our Retirement Living portfolio. The bungalows are of an excellent standard and the feedback from new residents has been fantastic. The new bungalows, together with the redevelopment work already completed of the local district centre, have greatly enhanced this area of Brookside."
