Hands-on Help offered to Telford and Wrekin not-for-profit organisations

We are working along with our development partners Telford & Wrekin Council, Nuplace and Lovell to offer not-for-profit and voluntary organisations in Telford and Wrekin the opportunity to apply for free materials and labour, to help transform buildings and outside spaces which are in need of improvement.

The Hands-on Help scheme is being brought forward as a part of the new mixed tenure housing development ‘Wild Walk’ in Donnington which will see delivery of some of the borough’s most low carbon homes built to date.

The labour and materials will be supplied by Lovell and used to deliver a range of improvements to community buildings and spaces such as painting and decorating, roofing and repair works, carpentry and plumbing, environmental and external works or improvements to bathrooms and kitchens.

The scheme is open to community groups and not-for-profit organisations including schools, charities and faith organisations that are based in Telford and Wrekin.

Applicants should apply by Friday 28 April and successful applicants will be notified in May 2023.

Councillor Richard Overton (Lab) Cabinet Member for Housing, Enforcement & Transport said:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lovell and The Wrekin Housing Group to bring forward this new development in Donnington which serves the needs of the local community by ensuring that all people have access to safe and appropriate housing in our borough.

“We are very grateful to Lovell for investing the time and expertise to help improve some of the community buildings we have here in the borough. We very much look forward to seeing the finished projects later in the summer and hearing how they have benefited our communities.”

Simon Wingate, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said:

“Wild Walk is a significant partnership scheme we’re proud to be a part of. The Hands-on Help scheme is the latest example of the fantastic work that Lovell, Telford & Wrekin Council, Wrekin Housing Group and Nuplace is completing together.

“Social value is a crucial part of our partnership and we’re confident that this scheme will be part of creating a lasting legacy in Telford alongside the other work we are doing throughout the community and the fantastic properties that are now coming to fruition.”

Simon Thompson, Director of Development at The Wrekin Housing Group said:

“We are delighted to work in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council and Lovell. This is an exciting project that not only enhances the area, but also provides much-needed quality, affordable homes for the community. Our new extra care scheme will also help meet the growing demand for older people’s housing in the area.

“Social value is one of our core strategic priorities and is at the heart of everything we do at Wrekin, and the Hands-on Help scheme will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
