Do you live in Newport? Covid tests available for all residents after Indian variant found
Everybody living in the Newport area is being offered a PCR test after positive cases of the Indian Covid variant were found.
Telford and Wrekin Council said a small number of cases were discovered at the Burton Borough School in Newport.
Public health specialists are providing advice to the school and local community and implementing control measures to help stop the spread of the variant. As a result, all families with children in the Newport area are being asked to get tested.
The following groups are being asked to get tested as a priority:
- All secondary-school aged children in Newport, their extended families and support bubbles
- Staff at the secondary schools in Newport, their extended families and support bubbles
Telford and Wrekin Council is also encouraging the following groups to get tested:
- Families with primary-school aged children in Newport
- All other Newport residents
A new testing centre is now open at Shuker Playing Fields, Sports and Social Club, Barnmeadow Road, TF10 7TP
Opening times are Mon-Fri 11am-6pm Sat-Sun 9am-3pm
No appointment needed, just drop in during these times.
If it’s more convenient, you can get a PCR test at other sites across Telford and Wrekin – you need to book your appointment here.
Anyone else Newport can access a test via NHS - Testing for coronavirus and clicking "my local authority has asked me to have a test".
